Raleigh volunteers in Costa Rica are heading out to start work on their final projects. The groups will be taking on the youth leadership element of their Expedition, supporting park rangers to maintain one of Costa Rica's national parks, and helping an indigenous community to construct a kindergarten to provide care and education for young children.

Recently Raleigh had the privilege of hosting a visit from the British Ambassador to Costa Rica and Nicaragua, Ross Denny. The ambassador visited a group of Raleigh volunteers in La Marta National Park where they are running a community action day on the environment with the local community. He then headed back to Turrialba to view the progress of an innovative campaigns and awareness raising project with McCann Worldgroup UK and Raleigh’s Costa Rican and Nicaraguan national society members.

Over the next two weeks, Raleigh International will be working with McCann Worldgroup UK to deliver a course in campaign management and awareness raising to Raleigh’s national societies from Costa Rica and Nicaragua. During this course, volunteers from nine McCann Worldgroup UK firms will be delivering lectures and workshops to Raleigh alumni with the intention of imparting their expertise in marketing and awareness campaigns.

In the indigenous territory of Alto Chirripó lies the village of Uluk Kicha, part of the Sharabata community. This village has been working with Raleigh Costa Rica over the past year to construct a secondary school for the local area and we have returned to continue our work with them.

International and host country volunteers have all started work on their projects throughout Costa Rica, ranging from natural resource management and conservation projects in National Parks to community resilience and education projects in Indigenous Communities.

The Project Managers for the Costa Rica Expedition have arrived and are already hard at work. An impressive 15 Project Managers (PMs) have joined our team in Turrialba and will be responsible for working with and leading the volunteers on our projects around Costa Rica.

Los coordinadores de proyecto (PM) para la Expedición en Costa Rica han llegado y ya están trabajando duro. Impresionante 15 PMs se han unido a nuestro equipo en Turrialba y serán responsables de trabajar y liderar a los voluntarios en nuestros proyectos alrededor de Costa Rica.

The Advanced Team has arrived at our field base in Turrialba, Costa Rica and have gotten stuck into their work. The team have begun familiarising themselves with their roles and preparing for the arrival of the project managers. The team is made of two Deputy Operations Mangers, our Administrator, three members of our Logistics team, the Fieldbase Medic, the Communications Officer and the Photographer.

Without further ado let’s meet the team who will be helping to deliver the upcoming Expedition.

El equipo de apoyo ha llegado a nuestro centro de entrenamiento en Turrialba, Costa Rica y se han quedado atrapados en su trabajo. El equipo ha empezado a familiarizarse con sus roles y prepararse para la llegada de los líderes de equipo. El equipo está formado por dos gerentes de operaciones, nuestro administrador, tres miembros de nuestro equipo logística, una médico, el oficial de comunicaciones y el fotógrafo.

Sin más preámbulos, nos encontraremos con el equipo que estará ayudando a ejecutar la próxima expedición.
